The Sky Falls December 22,2012
A popular belief amongst many of our people is that something catastrophic is going to happen on December 22, 2012. Some groups are looking for the aliens to arrive then. Chris Carter's X-Files dealt with this as the day the alien invasion begins. Others will tell you that Armageddon, the final battle between good and evil, starts that day. There are even some who believe Atlantis will rise from the ocean depths
on 12/22/2012.
We might as well add the fear of December 22, 2012 to the rapidly expanding list of things we, as a people, unreasonably fear. The truth is that regardless of why it is happening, we are becoming a people driven by irrational fear to the point that we are willing to destroy our lives in pursuit of protection from the boogyman.
In Minnesota, one group of liberals exhort parents to call their state representatives to tell them that "they are afraid for their children's future" if more money is not immediately dumped into the bottomless pit of public education.
Atheists sue the government because they are afraid that having any reference to God in the Pledge of Allegiance will somehow hamper their disbelief.
At the first sign of any weather other than bright and sunny with warm temperatures, we rush about stockpiling supplies and end up huddling in our 'safe rooms'.
Professional politicians claim to fear for the future of the country if their particular party is not in power and we, like good little brown shirts, pick up the chant.
If a cuss word comes across the airwaves, we fear that our children will be corrupted beyond redemption.
We fear rising prices, tax increases and higher inflation.
We fear each other so much that we destroy our language in an attempt to not offend or ever be misunderstood. We even have a name for this: political correctness.
We fear that allowing prayer in school will cause our children to reject our own lives of shallow faith.
We fear personal responsibility to such a degree that we sit by placidly and allow the government to take control of our lives.
There are things in this life that we should truly fear but we have become a people held tightly in the grip of irrational fear, the type of fear that cripples the mind and destroys the will.
There is a solution to this problem but so many of us refuse to see the camel in the closet, Faith in God. We claim to have this faith but only if it is convenient and does not conflict with our obsession with the material world.
If you truly have faith in God, there is no adversity that you can not face, no fear that you can not overcome. You know that He has a plan and believe that in the end, the Lord will be with you. You do not waste time worrying about why God allows war or poverty but instead work to eliminate these evils.
Folks, whether you like to hear it our not, as long as your faith is shallow, you will continue to be the victim of the fear mongers. And that is a situation that only you can change.
